The importance of Spring Garden Services, irrigation system and landscape
maintenance is obvious. The right time for "spring landscapeor rooftop gardener's work" however is late winter especially in the
typically mild NYC climate. Several reasons for this and I will write a
blog about it later. Landscaping, true landscaping in my mind isn't cutting
grass and blowing off driveways although landscape maintenance services do
include the need for a good clean up. Landscaping is landscape design,
continuous garden design improvements.

Mild
climate does not diminish the fact that the NYC roof gardener faces challenges
that the typical NY landscape company or look and feel of the outdoor
space to what the client imagined or wishes they could have. Simply ensuring
that that the gardens become established is a good way to start a true
landscape or garden maintenance service. Healthy, mature trees, shrubs and
perennial flowers are most appreciated and look great on their own, increasing
in value, increasing the value of the property and standing in the intended
purpose they were designed to fulfill. For example, A privacy hedge that is
well cared for will give much better return on investment and of course look
great. I would rather have to shear a strong growing hedge than replace spindly
weak and sparse trees that do not fulfil the landscape design goals even years after
installation.

By
ensuring that the trees and shrubs that make up the foundation of our gardens
or landscapes thrive we can then focus on improving and personalizing our
outdoor spaces (enjoying them, even!) and not continuously throw time and money
at replacing plantings that should last for decades when properly planted and
cared for.
In NYC garden design and landscape services industry I often see trees and
shrubs that are placed by NYC florists or general labour in planters
for a NYC penthouse garden that barely stay alive, never grow and often can be
pulled out with one hand even though they have been in place for a few
seasons. I am still amazed at the shortcuts and lack of even standard garden practice by the NYC
gardeners and wonder why they choose this trade over maybe something more
fitting such as McDonalds. Not to say that I haven't made my mistakes! Wow.
There is no real training to become a master gardener in the urban garden
design trade. Self proclaimed master gardener, that is, with a few people
who actually agree. We aren't talking about a vegetable garden.
I
did have extensive landscape knowledge and formal training, hands on garden
experience such as planting huge trees, shrubs, flowers and learning through a
decade of amateur landscaping and ornamental horticulture before breaking into
the Manhattan rooftop garden and terrace garden services trade. "Gardening
in a box?" I thought...well, how hard can it be? Just as my first few
plantings didn't do too well in the traditional landscapes of the high end Long
Island homes I landscaped, the first few rooftop garden plantings didn't go so
well either.
Over the several years working in the NYC garden and landscape industry and
always leaning towards gardening as my favourite part of the business, I took
the time to learn, ponder and master the techniques to sustain the beautiful
(and often expensive) plantings of the NYC penthouse gardens, roof gardens and
terraces.

After
such a harsh and record cold winter the ever important Spring Garden service,
